Mission Statement

 

Reeds Spring School Social Workers are dedicated to the district's educational mission by providing services that strengthen home, school and community partnerships and supporting students and their family's emotional and physical well being.

 


School Social Workers bridge the gap between home, school and the community to support and advocate for struggling students and families. The primary goal of school social work is to address barriers to success and to provide the resources that students and families need to achieve success both in school and in life. As integral members of an interdisciplinary educational team, school social workers provide both direct and indirect services to students and their families, services that empower them to provide for their family's basic needs and to resolve any social, emotional, or behavioral issues that may be be hindering their students academic success. Some of the services that School Social Workers provide are:

 
  • Advocacy for students, parents and the school
  • Individual and/or group therapy
  • Professional Case Management
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention
  • Support groups for students and parents
  • Parent education and training
  • Safe schools climate and prevention programming
  • Facilitation of other therapeutic and student services professionals
  • Collaboration with educational and student services professionals
  • Collaboration with community agencies and organizations
  • Solicitation and facilitation of community involvement in the school
  • Staff training and development
  • Policy advocacy and development
  • Referrals to Social Service resources available in the community
  • Referrals to and facilitation of Social Service resources provided on the school campus
  • Home visits
  • Attendance monitoring and truancy intervention services

 

Confidentiality

Privacy and confidentiality are essential to having an effective school social work program. Reeds Spring R-IV School District recognizes the importance of good communication and good working relationships between students, parents, and the school. Therefore, every effort will be made to protect student and parent privacy rights except under certain limited conditions. These conditions generally include safety issues (harm to self and/or others), legal issues, and professional responsibilities according to the NASW School Social Worker Code of Ethics.
