Mrs. Jancy Burke Recognized as Teacher of the Year

The Table Rock Lake Chamber of Commerce and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library honored Jancy Burke as the Teacher of the Year. Burke is a special education teacher at Reeds Spring Intermediate School.

“Working with Jancy has been one of the highlights of my career,” said Reeds Spring Elementary School Assistant Principal Tonya Baker. “I was witness to Jancy’s amazing insight as a teacher for all students. Jancy always made learning relevant to students, somehow creating an enthusiasm for learning, always taking them above and beyond expectations.”

Burke began working for the Reeds Spring School District in 2003 as a paraprofessional. She became a teacher in 2005. A few years ago, Burke had her dog, Ranger, trained to become a therapy dog. He now regularly spends time at the school, comforting students and improving morale.

“Mrs. Burke taught me that teaching is much more than getting students to learn,” said Reeds Spring Intermediate School Principal Andrea Chavez. “Teaching is a lifetime commitment to kids who need our help in more ways than one.”

Burke’s coworkers said her positivity is contagious, and that she goes above and beyond to help her students reach their full potential. Students described her as helpful, kind, caring, and loving.
