Reeds Spring High School's football team defeated Mt. Vernon 27-26 on Friday, September 14. The Mountaineers were ranked fourth in Class 3.
Quarterback Blake Gronvold led the Wolves with 111 yards passing and two touchdowns. The key play in the game was a 53-yard "hook and ladder" pass from Gronvold to Cole Watson, who pitched the ball to Seth Stamps, who ran it in for the score.
The Wolves are now 4-0 and host Springfield Catholic on Friday, September 21.
The Lady Wolves won three games last week, beating Marshfield 9-0, Monett 5-0, and Nevada 8-4. The JV team also won all three games. The varsity is currently 8-3 overall.
At the Hollister Invitational, Declan Brown was Reeds Spring's top finisher with a sixth-place result. Cole Weydert finished 16th. Every runner for the Wolves improved their time in this race from last year. Overall, the boys finished fifth out of 14 teams.
The Ladies Wolves competed in the Springfield Invitational last week, and in individual matches against Kickapoo and Springfield Central. The RSHS doubles team of Sydney Bookhout and Trinity Werner made it to the quarterfinals in their bracket. The team lost its matches to Springfield Central 8-1 and to Kickapoo 7-2.
RSHS lost to Branson 2-0.
