Tonia Sturm Named Employee of the Month

The Reeds Spring School District recognized Tonia Sturm as Employee of the Month for February. Sturm is a cook in the Reeds Spring High School kitchen. Earlier this year, Sturm performed the Heimlich maneuver on a student who was choking during lunch.

"This young lady was turning purple. I thought she needed help, so I ran over there," Sturm said.

Sturm and that student have formed a close connection since the incident. Sturm said building relationships is an important part of the job.

"These kids are our future, and it's important we take care of them," Sturm said. "Somebody needs to be a positive influence in their lives."

Sturm has worked for the district for two years. She said she appreciates being recognized for her efforts.
