Like nearly every school district in Missouri, the Reeds Spring School District is facing a substitute shortage. Not just teachers, but bus drivers and food service workers as well. The lack of substitutes could threaten our ability to offer in-person learning for the entire school year.
The state board of education has eased the requirements to encourage more people to apply to become substitute teachers. If you have a high school diploma, you can become eligible for a substitute teacher certificate once you complete a 20-hour, state-approved online training.
The training covers professionalism, classroom management techniques, basic instructional strategies, supporting students with special needs, and working with at-risk youth.
The training can be found on the DESE website, starting September 2.
